Request: Tutorial on using the various Kemper Equalizers for pedal steel

Post by Bill McCloskey »

I'm pretty much a nube when it comes to utilizing the various equalizers available in my Kemper (graphic, parametric, etc). And I particularly would like to learn more about using these tools to improve my various Kemper profiles for my pedal steel.

I would love, and I think it would be a valuable thread for the forum, if some of you geniuses could provide some tutorials, tricks, tips, explanations, comments, and guidance for EQing pedal steel using the Kemper profiler, Thanks in advance...let the games begin.

I’ve never used any the eq’s in the effects section on any of my steel rigs, I’ve always just used the amp tone knobs on the front to get the tone I want.

But many use the Kemper in amp-less situations where no amp is used. So, EQ would have to be done in the Kemper.

While I appreciate Michael's response, it isn't what I'm looking for. I'm looking for a tutorial for those who use the graphic and parametric EQ available in the Kemper specifically for steel.

There are a couple of general concepts to be aware of regarding the use of equalizers - understanding the difference between graphic and parametric, and placement of the EQ in the signal chain - that aren’t really specific to Kemper or pedal steel.

+1 for this.

I have the additional concern about eq’ing the signal that goes to FOH vs to your powered speaker/monitor. I’m not sure how much you want to EQ the signal at the source (Kemper) vs. The mixing board. The Kemper also has a separate 3-band eq for the monitor alone. Anyways it’s all a mystery to me too.
