Will Van Horn Tune / C6 help

Post by Joshua Tesch »

Hello forum,

I have been working on the Will Van Horn Tune "Lost My Mind" I pretty much bought a D10 because of this song.
Curious if I have the chords voiced correctly on the C6 neck. I'm pretty new to the C6.
Tune seems to be in C minor revolving on IV-II-V-I
What I think are the voicings. Fm9, Dm7b5, G7(or possibly G#dim), Cm7. The bass line suggests the G7. Bass line plays the notes F, G, D throughout the tune.
Here is how I am playing the chords on the pedal steel:
IV chord Fm9: 8th fret pedal 7 strings 7654
II chord Dm7b5: 8th fret pedal 6
V chord G#dim: 5th fret pedals 5,6
I chord Cm7: 3rd fret open and using pedal 7 to grab the 9 of the chord
Wondering what anyone thinks. Is this close. Sounds about right to my ears
I have figured out about 95% of the melody, but have some questions there too. I can post or share some video if anyone is interested.
I have never had the opportunity to play pedal steel with anyone else in person, so I thought I would ask for help here on the forum.
Thanks everyone.
Joshua

As a massive Will fan I will be 👀 this thread.
Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous; praise is meet for the upright. Give praise to the Lord with the harp, chant unto Him with the ten-stringed psaltery. Sing unto Him a new song, chant well unto Him with jubilation. For the word of the Lord is true, and all His works are in faithfulness. The Lord loveth mercy and judgement; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.

Joshua,

I hope your D10 journey is going well - C6 is an incredible tuning, especially if you let it guide you on what lays out best - it is generously intuitive. You've got the right changes and positions for this, so I'd say you're off to a good start! The only thing is I don't really think of a Dm7b5, but more G alt(G7 with altered tones b9 #9 #11 etc). Thanks for listening
