Bridge Over Troubled Water

Post by Mike Neer »

I’ve been working on this sporadically over the past couple of weeks and finally have a semi-polished arrangement. This one is very slant heavy, which falls in line with something I am hoping to launch soon called Slant Guru, a teaching method for slanting. I’m having a special instrument made for it.

This arrangement is pretty satisfying to play as difficult as it is. Sorry for the lame video. I am actually playing but the track was already recorded. The video is the delivery vessel, and honestly, I am not much of a video content creator.

What a song though!. An absolute masterpiece.

If you feel like talking about slants, we can do that here too.

A beautiful and moving arrangement Mike! I can hear it is in Eb, but it's hard to see the home root position. What tuning are you using.

Thank you so much for that Mike!
Just beautiful. And inspiring.

Thank you, gents!

Yes, key of Eb and C6 tuning (E C A G E C A G) treble to bass. This is my default tuning. I used to use Jules Ah See C13 for years, but I feel that with improved slanting I can do a lot more on straight C6, and on occasion C13, where I tune string 7 up to Bb (which is how Gabby Pahinui did it, at least on the Chicken Skin Music LP).

Thanks, Mike. That's a great arrangement. Very impressive bar control on those slants. Your left thumb really works that bar and gets the slants in tune up and down the neck. You are the guru of slants.
I also appreciated the Paul Simon approved scarf.
