Jam Bands
I do see some references to the Grateful Dead and other jam bands on the Forum. My introduction to pedals steel came from Ben Keith and Jerry Garcia, which led me to Sneaky Pete, Bobby Black and Buddy Cage in that genre. I have always had an interest in improvisational music and the band Neighbor really stands out. They are out of Boston and the musicianship is top notch, although there is no steel. Lyle Brewer, the guitar player, also teaches at Berklee School of music there. Interesting to listen to the way he incorporates different scales into his leads. It gets me thinking outside the box in my playing.

That guy is an amazing guitar player. What a reservoir of scales he has!
A banjo, like a pet monkey, seems like a good idea at first.

Re: Jam Bands
I just listened to “You Could Be Mine”. It was just about everything I look for in a well crafted song - skill shining at every position. The guitar is great, the rhythm section kills, and the singer can work his way around a funky Little Feat groove with lyrics that don’t suck. I could totally hear pedal steel parts that could be in that tune, especially on the bridge. But they do just fine without it.
Thanks for putting this group on my radar, Lee!

Re: Jam Bands
Thanks for the replies. Lyle Brewer, the guitarist, just left the band. Not sure what he will be doing but I know he really likes solo classical guitar and teaches at Berklee. I listen to them all of the time and it is amazing how they reconstruct songs to be totally different on consecutive nights. Just a great band. New guitarist is Rob Compa from Dopapod.
