Fender leg flange

Post by Alex Cattaneo »

Fender Rhodes vs Stringmaster, same hardware right?

I mentioned in another thread that Fender Rhodes leg flange could be purchased as direct replacement for Fender steel guitars. Well, close, but not quite.

The leg flange on a Fender Rhodes are not screwed directly into wood, they attach to another part. So they use different screws and the holes in the plates are not beveled or countersunk or whatever you call it. Here is a photo for comparison.

So, not sure what I should do: modify the holes in the plates to make them like the original, or simply use screws with pan heads or button heads or flush heads, whichever I can find.

You should be able to find flat head screws in any good hardware store.

I would try to track down the correct Stringmaster socket IF you already have the original 3/4" thread legs.

If you do not have the legs yet, buy a set of 1/2" screw legs and sockets from Gary Sill. They work just fine.

These sockets fit the original legs perfectly! I found some flat head screws so I’m all set.

Just wanted to put this information here in case anyone was looking at Fender Rhodes parts suppliers, such as Vintage Vibe, for replacements. The only difference is the screw hole. But if you want to find identical replacements… probably close to impossible at this point, no?

Alex,

Glad it worked out for you. I was able to track down 3/4" sockets over the the last 3 years mostly from members here and by watching eBay. You just can not be in a rush!
