First DoBro

Post by Colleen McTigue »

Hi! I just got my first DoBro (Epiphone Hound Dog) about a week ago (birthday present). I’m kicking myself for never having gotten one before now. This thing is FUN!!! Lots of work to learn, tho. Working on intonation accuracy and learning licks and patterns.

Thank you! Just wondering if folks have suggestions for resources for learning blues licks and rockabilly?

Here's an example of where I'm at currently in my learning of the Dobro. This is a song I wrote the other day. Pretty corny, I'll agree, and please forgive the imperfections, while I've been playing guitar for many years, I've only been playing the dobro less than 2 weeks, lol.

Hi Colleen - I had one of those and loved it. Eventually I upgraded, but in hindsight, maybe I should’ve kept the Hound Dog. I see you’re also in Ontario. I can recommend a couple of teachers in Toronto or Brantford area if that helps.

Thanks, Joe, but I'm in the Niagara region. Unless they would teach over Zoom, that's kinda far away from me for lessons...

Colleen - Rob Ickes has a good blues-focused video course (Robs reso room), and lessons with Troy (LWT streaming) is a good resource for any type of music and zoom lessons if useful. I also suggest Abbie Gardner as a great player and lesson resource. Welcome aboard! Steve
