Friends, how do you tune the fourth string on the Maverick- open E on the tuning key? I know they tune open with pedals down and then fine tune with the Allen wrench.
Thank you.

I believe press your C pedal and tune the F# at keyhead, than release C pedal and tune open with hex screw at the endplate.

Does the guitar has a knee lever?
If it has a knee lever, It should raise 4-8 to E.

If the guitar has a knee lever, Make sure the knee lever pull linkage does not interfere with reaching F# (With C pedal.), Or with finger returning to Open E, That is adjusted by the allen screw in the back of the changer.

The knee lever would tune 4-8 to F, With Knee lever engaged and the 4th string return to E as adjusted for C pedal. And 8th string adjusted with allen screw in back of changer.

I can't say, "It was a factory installed knee lever, Or if it was a shade tree mechanic Jerry Rigged knee lever".

Good Luck and Happy Steelin.

Yes, It had the knee lever. I started out playing on the brown contact paper Maverick, lol, many years ago. But it has been that long since I remembered how to tune them. Thank you so much.

The knee lever on an original Maverick did two things: it lowered the s.2 one half tone D# to D, and raised s.8 one half tone E to F.

Yup. Back in the 70s, I gave lessons to two people with Mavericks, and that is how the one knee lever was set up. As I recall, it couldn't raise AND lower the same string, and couldn't raise one string to two separate notes.
