3rd String Observation

I use SIT strings and change my 3rd string every 3rd or 4th gig always buying them in in bulk per dozen.
Carefully bring it up to G and wait to ease it up to G#.
last time I bought from another company that did not have bulk 3rd strings. They had GHS Pedal Steel High Break Tested.
I was sceptical, rolling my eyes and bought some.
Thought I would test them and just cranked it right up to G# and then A. Surprise and had no problem.
They seemed to be better to me.
Anyone else tried or tested these strings?

I change strings every two to three months. We gig every friday night for 3 hours and I never break a string if I follow this schedule.

GHS have been my go to strings for all my guitars for years.
The only guitar I don't use them on is my Martin DM.
They were the first strings I put on my PSG, love them.
Have been playing for over 70 years and found them to be the best.

I have used GHS and 011 pgs for a long time now. I do play quite a bit and change my strings out ever two months or so on both my guitars.
Monthly change out the 011. Can't say the 011's will never break as one went on me last week but breaking is not common in my changing habits.

The 3rd string "LIFE" is a living conversation ! Its perhaps near impossible to compare one players habits to others without knowing practice routines or playing styles. IF we practice the same short B pedal phrase for 8 hrs non stop that would probably be more of a workout than players who play the clubs 4 times a month every Friday. How many B Pedal mashes and how frequently is probably more relevant than how long the string has been on the Steel. For EX, my D10 sits idle as I don't play out anymore and don't sit behind it much these days, the B string hasn't been changed since last Fall, but when I was active I changed it every other week . Its still on the Steel and in tune ! Same guitar same strings.

Like many here I've been purchasing .011's or .0115's in bulk for decades now, never brand specific .

I have a bunch of the GHS strings mentioned and found them to be consistent. A few have the PG on the tag, most don't. I'm sure someone can tell us there is a difference, I suspect its in the ball end wrap but I never actually thought about it.

PS, regarding my Steel, I'll probably sit behind it later today and the 3rd string will break ! Laughing

Oh yeh I'm not retired from music , I'm on Telecaster full time and in-between gigs its the Bluegrass jams on the Flattop , Mandolin and sometimes Dobro.

Hi Folks . I thought I would chime in here. I am going to give away my age LOL. I remember when GHS 1st started pull testing the .011 I just received 32 of them for stock yesterday. Yes Ken there is a difference. The rep years ago told me that they use a slightly different process to measure the thickness and manufacturing. This is designed to make sure the wire is a more consistent thickness all the way along the spool. On a personal note I have been lucky enough to find and use GHS GB-E9 and GB-C6 strings from the start of my pedal steel career. They are warm, bright and the tone is relatively even throughout it's life span. Also most important to myself...on the ball end the string winding is a lot smooth/tighter and does not have as much wire pertruding that can potentially
damage the back of a finger.

I've been a SIT guy myself. Considering changing though. They sent me a set whereby one of the wound strings was only wound for half the length of the string. I have e-mailed them twice. No response.
GHS it is going forward. By SIT.
