Ordered a brand new pickup, arrived, put it in, no sound. Took it out and measured the resistance and 'OL' on the meter.

Being that it came from a reputable manufacturer I can only imagine it suffered from the -40 temps it endured on its two week delayed trip here. Stuck in Utah for 11 days.

I've contacted the manufacturer and am awaiting their response but oh, so disappointing!

I’ve had a hell of a lot of pickups frozen without a problem. Doubt very much that is the issue.

What else could it be, other than a manufacturing anomaly?

If you got a zero reading on your meter, then theres a break in the wire, which is rare but happens. If you got expected resistance, it should function with proper installation. If you got an odd reading of resistance, you may have a short, where the wire insulation has broken down, which might preclude functioning. Just some ideas.

OK, so I sat down with the pickup and did an inspection - discovered this 'clue'.

Curious, though, about how this made it out the door without being caught. Gonna try a BL705 instead...

A reading of "0" or no resistance is a dead short. "OL" or Infinity means an "open" or break in the winding at some point.

If you put your multi-meter probe on the exposed wire in your photo and one of the pickup leads, you'll most likely get a reading (unless there's multiple breaks). Anyway you look at it, there's an open in the pickup winding and it should go back to the manufacturer.

Yes; the stub is connected to the hot wire but not the ground wire. No continuity = no sound!
