I haven't tried it with a pedal steel. 3 amps setup for wet-dry-wet is a glorious sound for lead guitar but I think it would take up too much space (both physically and sonically) for most pedal steel gigs. But I'm sure it would be great for solo pedal steel. The Boss SDE-3000 EVH edition pedal has 3 outputs for amps making it easier to get the spread between amps. Andy Wood just put out a YouTube video showing his rig for wet-dry-wet (rock guitar). If you can afford it, haul it, and have room to set it up I'm sure it would be a fantastic sound.

Just a thought. I have several rigs for different venues. Tried this with two 112 bandits loaded with JBL D130s wet. Then my session 500 dry. It was just an experiment,but sounded great. Yea nobody wants to drag around 3 amps.  Great for woodshedding though. |

I do like my Telonics stereo rig. Three items, but the speakers are very light.

The Van Halen tone is not for me and I occasionally hit the distortion pedal.
This is the best tone set up I have found for PSG.

Watch this starting at 11 mins in. A wet/dry/wet rig is a whole other thing than a two amp stereo setup. It's more like how you'd add fx to any signal on a console with an aux send.

| LOL not trying for VanHalen tone. Just a clean wide fat tone. I run my bandits stereo. Also have a big road rig with a Rev and dual Peavey Classic 115 cabs |

| With all the virtual amps now available in pedal format (Dream '65 etc), it would not be hard to put together a wet dry wet rig on a pedalboard. Then you just need to be friends with the sound guy to send it through FoH in whatever configuration you work out with him. |

Here's a term that seems to be foreign to some of you: TIME STAMPS!!!!!!!
(Ok, rant over. Calm down, take a deep breath......)
My own very quick highlight points of the hour long video.

I'm an EVH fan.
IMO great later EVH tones.
However, the guys demoing the rig very rarely do it CLEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Is there a subtle hint here?)
There are a few short segments wherethey demo it clean, but for the most part, no.
I *think* that all of the distortion tones are from an EVH 5150 Overdrive pedal.
So the amps are set clean (I think).
At 21:45 different players give it a spin.
Costs: 1994-1995 dollars at 28:30.
Now: In the $1K-2K range.
The rig: Most of the video is through three EVH half stacks. (Two of them are used as power amp slaves.)
That's Ok, for you guys that have unlimited income and unlimited EVH envy.
But for people like me, I guess I'm out of luck.

Towards the end of the video, for amps, they use three Roland Micro Cubes.
So it's just pedal board and three cheapie Micro Cubes.
Go to 53:00.
So don't sell your Peavey Bandits just yet.
At about 1:00:30 they go through a bargain basement bottom feeder frugal thrifty cheap (a.k.a. me) version.

Nice rundown. Herring's a trip. One thing related that I tried once, was using two amps (Cube 80 and Cube 60),
set to the same settings, spaced apart. Totally bathed in stereo like effects around the room, and the slightly different timing and tail length between the two just created a more realistic randomness that occurs in large spaces. It was bigger than just a stereo rig. I can't make myself tote two amps anymore though. Plus, it wasn't that important in attaining a band sound. I'd love to have a gig where it was worth it though. |

Perfectly stated.
No one in any band I have ever been in has said “I would like to bathe the next gig in that cool 3-amp array of yours, Fred, and could you please place the amps strategically around the stage so everyone can enjoy the effect from their own perspective!”
It’s an earned perk. When you are EVH, SRV, or VGG (Vincent Grant Gill), and you have scratched and bitten and blazed and sold your way to having 7 amps and 9 guitars on the stage, we’ll talk. |
