Anyone know where I can get a handful of springs to exactly match the ones already on my S12 Zum? TIA! Circa 1991 guitar.

Hey John, Did you contact Bruce? He still has a decent stock of parts and could potentially sell you a new raise helper “spring kit”

Otherwise, the hardware store may be the best option. I’m not sure it your vintage of Zum is similar to the more modern ones, but the adjustable plastics type clips that go through the comb bracket to quickly adjust spring tension can be purchased from Granger or Uline under bag ties.

If you’re just looking for one spring, something close to original from hardware should get you by just fine. Give me a call sometime if want advice on setting the timing on those springs for stabilizing the finger assembly. I’ve gotten pretty good at doing that.

All best,
CS

Cody, thanks for the tip. I checked PSGParts.com, no Zum springs listed there. I'll give Bruce a call.
Here's pic of the existing springs on my Zum S12. All strings get raised except string 7 in my current setup:

John -- this is a Williams raise helper spring. I don't have any extra but if it matches, you can source it.

I took several off an 81 Zum but I don't know if they're the same or if I still have them. I'll let you know if I do.

Those nylon attachments are available several places. They are called beaded zip ties or ball knot ties.

Thanks for the picture John ...any chance you can get a closed measurement like Jon did...it would give me a starting point as we have a lot....a lot of springs Whoa! Also they look roughly like just a return springs... carter uses the same looking spring but i'll check. Jon's measurements against the new Carter springs I have here.
Also Thanks Jon, nice to see my calipers at works again LOL
thanks

Well i have a few MSA springs here and they seam to measure out at 5/16 wide and about 1 5/8 long...the Carter ones measure out just under 5/16 and about 1 1/2 long...i also have a ton of sho-bud that i still have to go through...but it gives you an idea
thanks
