Today would have been Larry’s 87th birthday,
Born 2-21-36 as part of that all mighty Mishawaka IN musical
entourage that gave us music abound from the early 50’s, playing
all around northern IN and southern MI. He and a few other Mishawaka
musicians would entertain none other that Don and Mary Emmons, on weekends
in a Mishawaka garage, in the early 70’s.
Many of you knew him then, and many knew him from Florida Steel Shows later in life, that he hosted in the 90’s, of which many of our past Steeler’s and many of you in forumland attended, and there were some dandy’s!
He always loved music and playing gigs, and trips to the ISGC on Labor Day, to rub elbows with all the rest.
We will love him and miss him greatly, and all he did for music
RIP Dad, your light continues to shine!

And a Happy Birthday to friend Stan Paxton, who shared the same Birthday
with Larry.

Larry and Stan

Thanks Jeff. Larry and Stan were always there for a good jam session. After your folks moved to Tennessee, I called Larry and I asked if I could talk to the worst steel player in the world. He said "you can't, I'm already talking to him"! I really loved Larry. He had some good jams at The Music Store, characters like Jimmy Day and Bobbe Seymore. There were others and they all had some 'stories' to tell.

Jeffrey:

Love this post! I was working overseas in the 92-95 time frame but on my leave time I used to drive up to DeBary and hang out at Larry’s store. That black Emmons in your first picture I bought from him in 1993 and still have it to this day. I think of Larry every time I sit down to play. He was a good friend!

Below is me playing a gig with that guitar.

God Bless!

Hey Ricky,
That picture was taken about ‘94 or ‘95, the only one of his shows we were able to get him to sit down and play a set. How humbling that must’ve been in front of all those who shared the stage that day. Very Happy
