Aloha friends,
this is the first video in a new format:
Hawaiian Steel Guitar Quick Tips.
I will talk about Steel Guitar topics, share video footage
from my travels, showing gear, etc.
It is pretty obvious that I am not very comfortable talking in
front of the camera yet, please bear with me 😊 !

I am born and raised in the south of Germany, near Stuttgart. After studying guitar in Los Angeles for a year I moved to Berlin in 1995, already a looong time ago 
My parents in law live in Holzkirchen, so I do know Bavaria, Berchtesgaden is exceptional beautiful.
So, you are used to the german accent, that's good

Sebastian, last time we were in Germany was May of 2019, flew into Munich, then Berchtesgaden and Salzberg Austria for a few days. I purposely wore my Sho-Bud baseball cap and my Emmons shirt all the time, thinking that somebody would recognize the labels, but no. We searched everywhere in those areas for a country band with steel in every bar we could find, but still nothing. Alot of digital hip hop music is all we found.

Yes, steel guitar in any form is not prominent at all in Germany.
If you are lucky you can find some nice Stubenmusik in that part of Bavaria, using Zitter and Kontraguitars. Quite unique !

I have great memories of touring Germany back around 2006, except for the part where it rained every single day. We logged a lot of miles driving but we had no gigs in Berlin, unfortunately.
The steel guitar was well received. I played a tricone back then too. I can remember recording a live broadcast in a club, but can't remember where. So many good things to say about the professionalism of the clubs, soundmen/techs, and GEMA, which wanted set lists before almost every gig.

Glad you had a good time in Germany, Mike.
The GEMA list is still quite a thing in Germany,
they always need a setlist of the songs that you want to play, playing loads of ancient Hawaiian tunes it it sometime a bit weird to even find out who the composer was.

| I would like to see the technique you use for playing those lightning fast triplets. I see you move tour right hand right up over the bridge when you play them but I can't see exactingly what the picking intervals are (just too fast). I would probably never be able to do it but I would like to try. |

| Hey Sebastian! Perhaps a video about your approach to palm harmonics? Also, playing melody lines with lower harmony notes (double-stop approaches to playing melodies) that specifically try to replicate the vocal nuances of the Hawaiian songs? Looking forward to more videos! |
