I bought my first Maverick in 1973 for $325. I've now seen them advertised for up to $1000. Good luck to your friend on this price.

One like this sold recently in Nashville for 1800. it's a fair price for a vintage Sho Bud. It's not a reboot. All the guitars here have gone up. Emmons LL2, LL3 and p/p are all up in price as much as 30%. I just overpaid for an LL2 D 10 8-6. This guitar should have sold for 3850. I paid over 5000 and didn't gripe or haggle over the price. It was what I was looking for. I don't like inflation any more than the next person, but it is what it is. Rolling Eyes

Hey Rickey way to go thanks for your post here my feelings exactly over the last few years most steel guitars are way over priced for what you are really getting in quality/ my own opinion /only i never had the qualifications to say so Smile

My personal opinion is that most guitars are under-priced today as I know 1st hand what goes into building a good one- for most folks it's a labor of love and if the builder is making any money it's pretty rare.

I put a number on this guitar based on current listing trends' I am a 45 yr pro player and have owned Buds. I am well educated on the Sho Bud product models. Yes Rick your right it's a student guitar. I respect your knowledge and restoration experience! Having said that the photos show the guitar in its current state. He had an offer locally for 1000.Turned it down only to find out later that the person was going to flip it for 1500.I have known the owner of this Bud for 40some yrs. I have not played it; I simply posted the pics for him. He would not sell it if it wasn't playable. I too am a victim of exactly what you talked about. As I stated I just overpaid for a Emmons LL2 D 10, 8-6. these guitars should sell for 3800 to 4000 depending on features and condition. It was what I wanted I knew what I was getting into. You are right but if someone wants something bad enough, they will pay for it .I know because I just did. I'm sure my friend is flexible on the price. 325 dollars in 1973 is the equivalent of 1500 today regardless of materials used. This man is responsible for teaching Jodon Rooney of Rascal Flatts, GUITAR Lessons for years and is an important part of their success. Thought I would mention that Smile Furthermore I think people aren't seeing the possibilities with this guitar. It could be sent to Sho Pro for a resto mod and could be a one-of-a-kind full custom build. FYI, I own Vintage guitars dated back to 1950 and don't need to be informed on what the word Vintage means. Razz

Rick you are a moderator and you know negative comments are against the rules.Im only presenting the guitar to be judged by the same standards as all other guitars that are presented for sale here. I therefore ask b0b to remove negative remarks. Anyone is welcome to PM me to talk about the guitar. 1850 is a fair starting number and I would like to say I too disagree with current sale, listing and value trends. Confused with all due respect!!

No Dan you are right and I totally respect your knowledge and words...and I agree..."A Guitar is worth just what someone is willing to pay".
These "price remarks" were not neccessarily about your item; I only came in with my remarks on what has been going on with all the craziness I hear from all the clients of mine from past to current about current pricing. This is a selling page and I will remove negative remarks that almost went along with this sale. So sorry.
Ricky

Dan that Bud is most likely the best sounding horn at the moment for sale ...off to Jeff Surrat .. make it into a 4/5...and let him work his magic on it 3000 would still be under priced being here in Canada however instantly takes me out of the loop ...best on your sale ...that one is beautiful ....David...

I have a soft spot for these raised-neck Mavs, and I know I'm not the only one. They have that old 'Bud eye appeal, and they are simple, light, and fast to set up. It might not be someone's main ax but it's great for some situations. This one has nice wood figuring and the headstock is the later kind with the rollers. And it's one of the most pristine examples I've seen, judging by the photos. That counts for a lot when valuing older instruments and amps. Not trying to debate the price either way but thought that was worth pointing out.

Nice Maverick, my first guitar was a Maverick that was vinyl covered with a low fretboard and a recessed keyhead.
This one is nice!

Good Luck with your sale!

A couple of points on this 6138:

Looks like it has a roller nut. That is an upgrade as earlier 6138s had a metal nut without rollers (my 6138 does not have rollers). Jim P. at North Country Guitars can do that mod but it is not cheap to do.

It has a knee lever. That was an option on the early 6138s (mine never had one).

I talked to my friend who owns this Bud . He told me this is a solid maple body and neck. The pedal bar has a maple insert also. It was purchased in 1973. He has known the man who bought it new for many yrs. Just adding more info. Smile
