From the 1996 International Steel Guitar Convention St Louis, MO USA

One of the special things about Herby was the way he and I used to tease each other on and off stage. I was 2 weeks older than Herby and he would not let me forget it, but I always came back with "Just look how much better looking I am" hehe.

Here is my pal, the one and only Herby Wallace along with:

Bobby Caldwell - Guitar
Gary (Biscuit) Davis - Guitar (Herby's son in law and 4 time World Banjo Champion)
Jimmy Queen - Drums
Russ Wever - Bass
Roy Rosetta - Piano
LT Zinn - Rhythm

Enjoy

Sure miss Herby. Herby played with such heart on ballads. His bar hand had such a unique vibrato. I met Herby in 1970. In 1976 at 16 years old, I was hired by Donna Fargo ( Happiest Girl in the whole USA) to fill Herbyโ€™s position after he moved on to something else. Huge shoes to fill! Iโ€™ll always remember Herby as kind , talented ,supportive and one of the best steel players ever.๐Ÿ˜Š

Thanks for posting this video Bill. Herby Wallace was a killer player and especially his C6th playing. At his booth at the Texas Show he was always quiet and shy. I called him one day to ask about a C6th course. 30 minutes later I was still on the phone. He was so friendly and talkative and really encouraged me to learn C6th. In fact, he told me I cannot believe you live in Texas and do not play C6th. You have to play C6th living in Texas. Well, I am still trying to learn it. Tommy White, they knew you were highly qualified to fill the shoes of those men. I can sit and listen to you play for hours as well.

Herby was my all time favorite, especially his C6 playing. I spent endless hours talking to Herby about music and pedal steel. We stayed at his cabin in Pigeon Forge several times while attending the Knoxville steel shows. I purchased my 1st new Mullen D10 8x4 from Herby in 1994 at the Texas show. I miss my friend and his powerful performances. These videos help to remember what a fine player and entertainer we had in the great Herby Wallace.
