I've been thinking alot about this lately. My right hand tends to get real tight. When I relax it, I lose some speed and accuracy. One of my newer goals is to retain my (middling) speed and accuracy while relaxed.

That’s all I’ve ever heard anybody say about it.
One of my favorite players to watch (and listen to) is Buck Reid. His playing looks effortless and sounds fantastic even at warp speed, but there’s a thing he does when he gets deep into a solo. You can actually see his concentration get more focused, because he bows his head and looks straight down at the the board. There’s nothing else in the world going on at that moment for him except the music he is making. When you see him do that, hang on, because you are going on a wild ride. |
