For anyone who’s interested -
The Christopher Woitach Steel Quartet will be playing every 2nd Sunday, 7-9:45 pm, Jo Bar and Rotisserie on NW 23rd in Portland OR, at least through December, hoping it’s longer, of course. The owner and staff love us, which is always a good start.
If you’ve ever happened to see the livestream I did on Facebook (still occasionally do) starting in March 2020, then you’ve heard the trombonist in the group, John Moak, who’s as good as it gets, in my book. Anytime he can’t make it, the sub is a great sax and bass clarinet player named David Evans, also a top player. The rhythm section is also terrific, and we have a core of subs who know the book and know what we’re trying to do when the regular guys (Tim Gilson fretless electric bass, Charlie Doggett, drums) can’t make it.
I honestly think I’m improving, and the trust I feel towards the other band members helps me just relax and play as good as I can, without much anxiety.
The regularity is definitely gonna pay off. Please come check it out if you enjoy interactive fun jazz music. In fact, even if you don’t - pedal steel, after all…. _________________ Christopher Woitach

Awesome Christopher sounds like a great gig. I'm playing Steel guitar jazz in San Diego twice a month and it's a blast. We play with tracks, you're really lucky to play with a full band, must be nice to feed off all the players. Any way, good luck, can't wait to hear you guys Catt |

Thanks, Jeff! I look forward to seeing you - make sure to come up and say hi! I always go outside on breaks and smoke (yeah I know) in case you’re looking for me…
I’ll be interested to hear your take on it _________________ Christopher Woitach

I thought smoking was a requirement for jazz musicians. _________________ Dave

Some friends and I went to see Chris’ quartet last Sunday. What a great band! Some of the finest musicians in Portland. The Jo Bar is a nice place too, very easy going and good food from Papa Haydn next door. Catch them if you can. Wonderful stuff. |
