The Seldom Scene played the Sellersville Theater in Pa. Friday night and appeared unexpectedly as a quartet. Mando player / singer Lou Reid tested positive for covid and wasn't there. The guys were loose and able to re-arrange things and were as always, just great. They are so personable and self effacing that the audience has to love them.
One thing that really stood out to me was Fred Travers' sound. He has a 1935 Regal (Dobro) that is probably the best Dobro tone I have ever heard live. It's not Nashville or packaged, it's clear and chimey and just makes me feel great just watching him.
If you haven't seen them or if it has been a while you are going to have a treat if you can catch them.

Thanks for the post about this band.

I had not heard of Fred Travers until reading his name here. I went and found his Soundcloud account, and wow, do I like his playing and tone!

Fred's been with the Scene longer than Mike Auldridge.

Fred knows how to pull tone out of the old box. I should point out that the critical parts on that guitar have been upgraded and that Paul Beard is that guitar's caregiver.

Top it all off. Fred's one heck of a nice guy to boot!

Sorry to hear about Lou. Hope he bounces back quickly.

Always enjoy seeing the band on PBS. Never seen them in person.

Fred is a fine player and an equally good singer.
