I’m very new to this instrument, only been playing about a month so forgive me if this is a stupid question. Is it common to have the pedal rods fall off while playing? At least two or three times per practice session my foot will catch the pedal weird and lift it up high enough for the hook on the end of the rod to come loose and completely detach the pedal. Is it just my inexperience causing this or is there something I can do setup wise to fix it? I haven’t played any gigs yet but this would be a huge problem if it happened on stage. I’ve tried to include a picture in case my guitar setup isn’t standard.

Thanks

I can't be 100% certain, looking at the photo, but it is NOT an uncommon mistake to hook it up from the wrong direction. You will need to angle the rod rather extremely to get it on but try hooking it in the reverse way from how you've got it.

On closer examination, I do believe that this is exactly the problem and that my suggestion is going to be the fix. It shouldn't give you any more trouble.

Yup, just flip the rod around. I had this problem starting out and I never figured it out until I sold my Bud, ha.

Not the first time someone has had this problem. It goes on easier the wrong way and it seems obvious that it is right. 'cept it isn't.

Instead of feeling "dumb", feel a little better "informed" .

Hello everyone. Reviving this thread becasue I am experiencing the same issue. My rods are connected like in the original poster's photo, but there is no way for me to flip them around as I believe is being specified here- there's no room. Any ideas?

EDIT: I actually just figured it out. I was trying to flip the rod while it was still connected to the actual pedal. oof!

I played a GFI for years, and the hooks on the pull rods were long enough that you could attach from the front and it wouldn't pop out if you accidentally caught the bottom of a pedal.

When I got an Excel the hook was much shorter and I wondered why it was so easy to accidentally kick the rod out. Thought I was just clumsy. Turns out I had been hooking up the pull rods the wrong way for years, hehe. (And I'm still kinda clumsy).

Just wanted to let you know you're not the only one. Very Happy
