Steel player on Stoney Edwards song

Many years ago I made a query about who played steel on the Stony Edwards song "Cute Little Waitress". As I recall I never got a final answer some thought it was JD Maness but I never got the answer i hoped for. Can anyone help?

All I can say is that the record was produced at Capitol, LA by Earl "Poole" Ball. That could be a hint that it was JD.
