Oceans 11 reverb-shimmer on lap steel

I've been using the Electro-Harmonix Oceans 11 on all of my gigs lately. It does a lot of things: reverbs, tremolo, delay, etc. but my favorite is the Shimmer effect. It generates an octave-shifted reverb that modulates and blossoms behind the original note(s). I made a quick demo yesterday:

Yes, it really fattens up the sound. I have to be careful not to overuse it though. I use it for solos and intros to broaden the sound, and shut it off when backing a vocalist.

WoW that’s a very interesting effect! Probably work very nice in a rock or psychedelic folk music where the steel serve as a texture layer to an ambiant sound.

Great sound Doug. I bought a Neunaber Immerse Reverb pedal a couple of years ago and was amazed by the shimmer settings. Especially for those ethereal type tunes. I dont know whether you have tried it on an acoustic instrument yet but they are amazing for inspiring you to play those slow soulful pieces. I have a Weissenborn and the shimmer setting can lift it to another level. I am not an effects person at all but this one really surprised me in a very musical way!

I haven’t used effects much in recent years, but I just put together a small pedalboard (hand controlled) with the Oceans 11, OCD overdrive, and a Boss delay, and I’m really enjoying it.
