| What speaker do you like best and what amps have used it with? I'm going through a trial and error process, have a TT 12, several 15 Black Widows and a variety of others. I still like the Black Widow. Your favorites? |

An older BW 1501-4, originally pulled from a NV 400, with a retrofitted neo mag. It's in a '77 LTD 400.
I like my TT-12 too, but the BW trumps it. |

For lower powered amps, JBLs all the way. For higher powered amps, a BW-1502-4.

For stage use I've recently been playing direct so I don't have to carry any speaker(s) to gigs. For playing at home, and recording I strongly prefer the Eminence PF350. I used to be a JBL fan, but the PF350 is now the top dog.

| For lower powered amps (75 watts or under) I prefer the Warehouse 'G12C/S. Recently installed them in both my Nashville 112 and my Marsh 'Melloverb Jr.' with very satisfactory results. (A definite plus is that they are approximately 1/2 the cost of designated steel guitar speakers). |

For lower powered amps, the 12" Blue Marvel or it's replacement, the new Celestion from Peavey.
Smoothest sounding speaker I've ever used.

I don't know why but to me the Fender branded JBL speakers always sounded better.. I know, its all in my head, but the orange coloring instead of light grey, makes them sound better... just like a black steel guitar sounds better...
Any Fender tube amp [pre linear transformer]equipped with JBL/Fender speakers to me just sounds like perfection with pedal steel.... Actually, all the Fender blue label speakers sounded good for pedal steel, CTS/Oxford/Utah/Jensen,, Not quite as sweet as a JBL F but I dunno, Leo knew what sound he wanted from his amps, and his speaker choices always worked for pedal steel... Glad CBS still used them after leo sold the company.......

JBL all the way.
Whether 15, 12, or 10 inch all D, K, and E models feature:
Widest and smoothest frequency response of any full-range speaker of equal size.
Highest efficiency, easily twice as loud per watt as most other "professional" drivers, which keeps amp distortion low.
Available in 4, 8, and 16 ohm impedances.
Recone kits readily available.
The ceramic magnet of the E series adds a bit of weight but also increased power handling over the alnico units. |

I have an old 12” EV Force10 speaker in my tweed Tremolux, which is one of my favorite amps for my Stringmaster. I’m also rather fond of the stock speaker in my sf Princeton non-reverb

Well I for one have never had those, but EV was well thought of for PA's as I remember from back in the day.
I had a couple of D130 in a 64 Dual Showman that sounded terrific, but beings how you needed 2 men and a boy to carry and that was on level ground, there was NOWAY I was gonna pack it up and down stairs.
Had a couple of Jensens in a Fender Twin back in the early 70's and was never a fan and never able to dial it in.
I've always been a fan of the Session 500 and whatever that BW was, I liked it better than my 76 Session 400 with the Spiderweb BW.
Thought the Telonics Super Twin with 2 12" Neo's sounded better with the TT12's that I still have in it, yet should sell.
I'm really happy with both the TT-12 and TT-15 in the Quilter Cabs hooked up to the 202 Tone-block.
And really happy with the 2-12" Wheelhouse Speakers in my Bad Dawg p2p.
So what does that tell you? I don't know.

Lots of good choices given. I definitely like the Peavey BW speakers in several amps. I also get along with TT in a separate 12 inch cabinet.
Dale, it tells me you have made some great choices. I really don't like the Telonics 15 in my TC500 amp. I can't find a happy setting that satisfy the mids without being too muddy. |

| I've tried many speakers in my Twin Reverb. Jensen, Eminence, JBL, Weber - both 12s and 15s. I finally settled on an Altec 418b. Magical in that amp! |

| I have to retract the Telonics 15 statement made above. I discovered the culprit was my Lexicon Mpx 1 caused the problem. Even in bypass mode it affected the tone of the amp. Not sure why but with it completely out of circuit and not in the effects loop the tone was clear and sweet. Something to consider when we experiment with speakers. |

Interesting Larry... I ran my MPX 1 with my Telonic's SuperTwin and never noticed that, what I DID notice though was that all the wonkiness I was hearing with the Neo Speakers disappeared when I put the TT-12's in. YMCV

| Dale, I have to check the manual on bypass settings. It seems there is options, so it's not just a bypass. I have another one in a rack to compare with. I may need to do a longer play comparison to evaluate, but I was just overjoyed when I made this discovery. Saved me from selling the amp. |

I tried all of the 15 inch neo-mag speakers in my Peavey 400. The TT-15 is my favorite.
I also have matching extension cabs, a 15 inch PF400 and a 12 inch Wheelhouse 150, one at a time or both together plugged into my Quilter 202 head.
For what it's worth, those 2 speakers are rated about the same for efficiency and respnse curve. Different sounds though, PF400 is ultra clean while the Wheelhouse has a hemp cone for warmth. |
