| I've bought a 12 string msa. It's 6 and 4. I'm having to put everything back under it. Looking for universal copedent with 6 pedals for ideas. |

In this link, Larry shows a lean 6 pedal Uni. When I had a 6 pedal push pull, he & I shared a lot of similarities in setup (some I arrived at on my own, some I borrowed from him.)
He & I tune the 2nd string to D-nat. I have the 8th string E > D on the same RKR that raises the 2nd. If you have the standard D# on 2, then you can just dedicate RKR to the 8th string.
It's a good working setup that gets a lot of value out of 6 pedals.

That's a helpful link that Jon attached to Larry Bell's universal page...
I've noticed it is pretty common for e9/b6 uni set ups to have the pedal 5 change (C#9) right next to the C pedal.
For you e9/b6 universal players, Is the C pedal F# raise on string 4 generally split with the E lowers to get F? This would make sense... Otherwise, the F# would be a sus11 sort of thing on the pedal 5 sound, which would also be useful in ways, but perhaps not as harmonious as being able to pedal into that major 3rd.

| Thanks for the help guys. I got it together and played it yesterday at a gig. Love everything about it but the tone. Sounds just like my dad's pp. While I love hearing one it just doesn't appeal to my ears with me playing it. |

I totally relate to not wanting that particular tone (my taste only!), and odd that the MSA sounds like that… For what my experience is worth (MSA player for life, jazz guitarist), Maurice Anderson, who is one of the founders of MSA, and was my teacher, told me that for my taste the Alumitone was the perfect pickup.
Amp matters too, of course….

Another vote here for Johnny Cox' 12 string D-13th. I'm pretty sure I'll be adopting a version of it myself - just for something to fill my time in my dotage!
Not to hijack the thread, but to Christopher:
What IS your choice of amp, given your musical leanings?
That P/P tone: I've only played a couple and I, too, didn't enjoy what I was able to get out of them. In addition, as heretical as this may be, I don't even enjoy Buddy Emmons' tone on, say, the Roger Miller country album (Tall, Tall Trees?) The Black Album is a musical milestone, I know, but his tone on his Christmas album is, for me, far more pleasing.

| I'm playing a nv400. I've had it forever, always sounds great with my sho bud. When I got it years ago someone had butchered the cabinet. I put it in a pacer cab with a bw12. Sounds better than the 15 to me. I hope with a little time my ears will accept it. If not I can always go back to my sho bud and look for another |
