hey Will
that's a tough one, I've never seen anyone do 6-string C6 with pedals.
I suppose you could either tune it low to high like strings 9-4 (FACEGA), 8-3 (ACEGAC), or 7-2 (CEGACE). I'd probably go with 8-3?
I'd say the 3 most important pedals on C6 are 5,6,7 and levers would mostly depend on which tuning you choose.
I'd highly recommend an 8 or 10-string but perhaps that's not an option for whatever reason _________________ 1965 Emmons S-10, 3x5 • Emmons LLIII D-10, 10x12 • JCH D-10, 10x12 • Beard MA-8 • Oahu Tonemaster |

maybe someone else can chime in but you need to decide how you want to tune it first, since most C6 pedal steels have 10 strings these days. do you have any experience playing C6 lap steel? you can also get a lot of C6 type sounds from an E9 tuning. how is the guitar currently tuned? _________________ 1965 Emmons S-10, 3x5 • Emmons LLIII D-10, 10x12 • JCH D-10, 10x12 • Beard MA-8 • Oahu Tonemaster |

Scott the guitar is a friend of mine it is now tuned to a Gtuning, gbdgbd it was set up to get your,4ths you minors your 7ths your 9ths,etc by using your pedals and knees so I am sure you could set it up to get needed changes for,C6th I mean, look at 6 string E9th pedal stes |

I'm not smart enough to figure it out, but you might take a look at Sneaky Pete Kleinow's 8-string B6th tuning and raise it up half-a-step? |

If you need a chart to help you know the changes, Buddy Emmons copedent is probably as good a place as any. https://b0b.com/wp/copedents/buddy-emmons-c6th-copedent/
You could do pedals 5-6-7 from that chart, then copy the knee levers. I’d probably use strings 7-2 as that’s what most lap steels are. That way you could still find lots of instructional material without pedals, and by using Buddy’s setup, find material using those changes. But Scott’s suggestion to use 8-3 instead is a good one, I definitely love the sound of the lower notes most on C6, just a matter of your taste. |
