So, I have developed a ganglion cyst in my left foot right between the big toe and the second toe. Has anyone else dealt with this? Rocking into A+B or B+E Lever definitely is painful, and I'm worried that those are the exact things that triggered it. And of course, arthritis is also involved. It doesn't keep me from playing--yet. More gory details upon request, but the short story is that I'm resigned to having surgery on it in June, which will put me in a boot for a few weeks. Any advice or experiences welcome, thanks.

I developed one on my finger and it later disappeared. I looked up the surgery at the time and discussed it with my doctor. I'm sure you have heard of the Bible bump treatment? Sounds crazy but many claimed it works. Not sure I would do that. Doctor said they do sometimes go away and I was lucky there.

I have one on the joint of my thumb. It sort of comes and goes. Not really bothersome but my family doctor and my dermatologist both say that surgery on them can be messy and they don’t recommend it.

Ha ha! Yes, they call them Bible Bumps. The docs have warned me away from that procedure.

I could almost leave this one be, except it's so darn big. I had it drained but it came right back even bigger.

I appreciate the advice (including in private messages). If I go through with the surgery, I'll report back on the results.

Keep in mind you could find things to practice for a few weeks that don't involve feet. Maybe an opportunity. My wife had rotator cuff surgery in February. The weeks have gone by fast and the pain will be gone.

Lap steel! Plus, work on that A+B to B+C pivot with the boot on. When I take it off, it will seem so easy!

I had a bump right under the tendon going to my index finger on my right hand. It was giving me tendonitis from flatpicking. The "bible" method didn't help and it turned out to be a scar on the bone underneath the tendon. I didn't do myself any favors whacking on it. A surgeon took it off 20 years ago and it's been fine since.

On the subject of slant steel in lieu of pedals, I saw Maurice Anderson give a symposium hawking the new "universal" steel in a music store almost 50 years ago. On his last set he stopped using the pedals all together and played a bunch of stuff with slants only. I sure was impressed.

Erv, it's where you whack a ganglion with a big heavy book and hopefully break up the lump where it can drain away.

Just to let folks know, five weeks after surgery, I am doing great, and have been rehearsing and playing gigs.

Still limp a little, and the tip of my big toe is numb, but I expect that will improve with time. After a couple of weeks, rocking pedals was not a problem. But geez, it was not exactly an office procedure. Thanks again for chiming in about your experiences.
