I’m setting up a pull/release steel. I like the quick response of the plain G# 6th when pedaled, but maybe having a wound 6th G# string would balance the pull better and make an easier setup. Just wondering what all you pull/release guys prefer.
Thanks
Dave

Hey Dave, how ya doin'?
Sorry can't answer your question. But that's a super pretty guitar - but what is it?
Some ZB and other parts?

Hi Eric! Doing good!

No one is 100% sure but it was either built by Leroy Prine or Zane Beck in the early/mid 60’s. It definitely has Zane Beck fretboards. Leroy built guitars called Pedalmasters and Zane used to hang out with him at his shop after he left the Shobud company in ‘59….there are a few threads about this guitar on the forum.

Possibly they both built the guitar since they often shared ideas, according to a forum member who thinks he remembers seeing this guitar at Leroy’s shop in the ‘60’s….he remembers meeting Zane at the shop.

It has beautiful tone! Not like a ZB, closer to a Shobud permanent or fingertip but every bit as beautiful as a ZB

BTW I have a ZB D11 that needs restoration if you need a project 😂😜

I like to have a wound string for my pull release guitars just to balance the pull with the 3rd string. Beautiful guitar by the way!

I used to play a P-R and I preferred the sound of the wound 6th. It gave the 6-8-10 grip real depth and "growl".

If it balances better, that suggests that it's what the builder intended.

Dave,
I'd recommend a wound 0.024", it should balance almost perfectly with a 0.011 3rd string, and will yield much smoother pedal action.

I should have mentioned that my old guitar had single-coil pickups, which added to the tonal satisfaction Smile
