It is with a heavy heart that I’ve decided to sell this 1940 Gibson Console Grande, with original case. Got some unexpected doctor bills to pay, you know the drill. Mostly original. 7/8. The CC pickups sound fantastic and are now grounded. Missing one mute handle (orig mute works just fine) and the bridge plate covers. Gorgeous instrument. Photos by request - just PM me.
$2250, shipped domestic US. Donation will be made to the forum. No trades.
This is one of 55 Console Grandes shipped in 1940, so fairly rare. The original case is remarkably good condition with strong color and the racing stripes. Sounds wonderful. Thanks!

I have played this steel, it's a sweethheart! The original legs are remarkably stable, better than any of the GC's I have owned. And I have never seen one with a case in this condition, hard to imagine it was really used very much. The missing handle on the mute doesn't affect its functioning at all & would actually get in the way when up, I imagine it may have been removed on purpose. |

It is particularly rare to see the mute on the 1940 Console Grande's.
My 1940 appears to have never had a mute installed.
They are great Steels although the scale-length is on the shorter end of the scale-length range. _________________ Regards
