I built this simple lap steel stand yesterday. It was easy to assemble using a piece of 3/4" plywood, 1/2" NPT pipe and fittings, and some rubber feet. This is not an adjustable height stand, but it is very stable. I assembled all the pieces and cut down the bottom sections to the height I wanted using a hacksaw. I'm thinking I'll build another set of legs for standing up and playing Smile

I like it! You could call it a "spider stand." - reminds me of a daddy-long-legs.

I've thought of doing something similar so it's nice to see it actually done. Good job and thanks for showing it.

Thanks! I have been working on my house today, and I have been looking at a lot at plumbing and electrical fittings. I had a tube bender, so I made some legs with electrical conduit. This was about $60 in parts and took 30 min to assemble. It's solid, and I'm thinking about replacing the set screws with thumb screws to easily remove the legs to put the stand in a gig bag and go to a jam session Smile

I simplified the design of this stand using 3/4" EMT conduit + fittings and some 7/8" rubber feet.
It's nice to have a lap steel stand when using a volume pedal.

very nice, indeed! I love the simplicity, plus it's got to be much lighter than your original. It also matches that beautiful lap steel quite well - a very clean overall look. Congrats on both your creative and physical work.

It's a challenge to design a lap steel stand that is lightweight and easy to assemble with parts and tools that can be purchased at almost any hardware store. The legs weigh 6 lbs and cost about $40 for the parts. I'm working on documentation for all the parts, tools, cuts, and bends to make these stands Smile
