I believe comparing apples to apple's is legitimate. Steel amp vs Steel amp.

I don't recall ever reading or hearing that the Twin Reverb ( early chassis) was the Holy Grail Steel amp. Clean with plenty of power, for certain, Steel friendly, yes, but not the Holy Grail.

So my question is still the same, out of all the STEEL amps on the planet, why the comparison of the Quilter to the Twin reverb, early issue ?

Both great amps, but both not in the same category. Thats all I am saying.

Tony, The original question posed was how does a 202 sound compared to "my" Twin? Thus how the thread evolved into the twin as a "steel amp". And, to the original poster they sound the same.

In early 70's when I was an amp tech in Nashville, the twin was the "holy grail" for steel. I even got to do a tune up on Ralph Mooney's twin when he went to work for Waylon.

I have a few vintage Fender amps as well as a Toneblock 202. They all sound great, but the key to making the 202 sound like a Twin is running through a Fender style open back cabinet with some Jensen inspired ceramic speakers.

Has anyone tried a 202 with pv 1504,4ohm ?
Also, is there a way to run 2 4ohm cabs with a 202? Trying to decide on a new amp if/when I return to playing again.
