Hey Trey, I bought some solo tracks from John when he was alive and well back in 2011. My brother and I used to go to the convention in St. Louis to see him as well as various clubs he played. Such a great guy. First time I heard him in person was in '73 with Conway. They had a 4 piece band that was unbelievable. Conway played his own lead. I have some of my recordings using the tracks on YouTube. Just search Danny Kirby steel guitar and you can listen if you like. I love that Hughey stuff. Can't beat it!

Just now remember I removed the ones actually with the solo tracks. I left only the ones with rhythm guitar. I will find a couple and send them later. Sorry about that. But the ones that are there, I practiced using the solo tracks.

Hey Trey. I added one more in case you might want to hear another one of Hughey's tracks. This is a link to "I Just Destroyed the World". John did such a fabulous job on this Conway hit. That was so nice of him to release those tracks so us steel pickers could practice his style.

Hey, no problem Trey. We all get busy these days. Thanks to Larry as well for responding. I love having this forum where we can all share ideas. Here's another of Hughey's tracks I played with, called Sweet Memories. It's probably one of the best I heard John do. But wow, so many great ones he did. Enjoy.

This is a fun steel number to do. Especially when using John Hughey's tracks. It helps to practice these songs so they sound decent at a live show. I was off in a few places, but oh well. Thanks for listening.

I get a lot of requests to play this Hughey instrumental. I still remember this Conway song when it came out in '83. Many of the DJs were making such praises for the steel guitar part. I really enjoyed using his tracks to make this recording. I hope you enjoy listening.

I've got 4 of John's CD's. One of them was autographed for me in person. Ms. Jean and John were some of the nicest and most graceful people I've met. I just checked - The web site is up and running.

Yes, you are right about that. John and Miss Jean were one of the nicest couples I have ever met. John did not mind taking the time to talk and even explain how he did certain licks. He was a true to heart steel player who really cared about his fans. We will all miss him. Thanks to Miss Jean for keeping his work and his memory alive. What a player!

Unfortunately, I don't think John Hughey put out an instrumental of Last Date for us steel pickers. If he did, I would sure love to find one. I remember when it came out I guess in '71. I made a bet with my father in law, steel picker Ed Wicker from Wink, Texas, that he finished this great Conway song with three beats on the end, not four. I was wrong! Cost me two steak dinners! One of my best friends, Randy Marshall, helped me to pick out a version of Last Date. I have had many many requests to play this instrumental. It's kinda laid back, but I hope you enjoy. Thanks for listening.
