For the last year and a half I've been playing one of those cheap Chinese double 6's which I stretched out proper with the GeorgeBoards mod.

My tunings are as follows bass to treble.

Close Neck - G11 = Bb11 transposed to thicker strings

G B D F A C

Far Neck - Circle of Too Fifths Tuning

D F# A C# E G#

I'd like merge them on a No Pedal Console 12 like this.

G B D F A C E G# B D# F# A#

I haven't gauged it out yet so it might have to be transcribed to work well.

I never see anything in my "below student model" price range so am planning on building my own.

I don't want to go the zither peg route.

Although my record player spins a hell of a lot of Wynn Stewart there are times that I'll sit down at my steel and play Velvet Underground songs or engage a Doom pedal and do Mickey Hart Beam stuff.

So yeah, no zither pegs.

Ideally any hardware other than electronics I want to be able to mount flush on to any old box/plank.

I don't want to attempt building a pedal steel nor want to continuously be frustrated with a beater of a rebuild.

Sticking to console seems the best plan. If the design lends to later attaching benders or switch tuners all the better but that's not a deal breaker.

I've done a lot of internet searching for options and as many of you know it's a bit on the daunting side finding stuff let alone not really seeing it to understand if it would work for your needs.

So my question to all you folks in the know, what would you do if you wanted to build a zither peg free 12 string console?

Where would you source the parts?

Why would you choose them?
