Phil Schaap died yesterday. For those of you outside the New York city area who may be unfamiliar with Schaap's life work, here is a wonderful bio of him from 2008 from the New Yorker. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2008/05/19/bird-watcher

The kind of minutiae Phil brought to his presentation of his jazz programming is the same kind that Charlie Parker and John Coltrane and the finest jazz musicians bring to their understanding, development and presentation of the music they played. His passion for jazz is on the same level as the musicians playing it. It's really remarkable when you think of how a person's passion for things like music or Baseball or History or French wines can enrich our lives so. I will miss Phil but his work will live on in the archives of WKCR, who will continue to broadcast Phil's Bird-Flight.
