Sailin' On To Hawaii on my National Tricone (1931).
This Hawaii inspired song by Bashful Brother Oswald
was kind of a starting point of my Hawaiian steel guitar journey.
It is not too hard to play, nevertheless an excellent piece to work on your forward slants !
The tuning I use is A Highbass (Hi to low E C#A E C# A)
Same as Dobro Tuning but one whole step up.

Hope you like it 😊!
I provide tabs and playbacks for all of my videos(A+G-tuning),
you can order them by sending me an email:

Lovely!!!

I've played that one, and The End Of The World as well, on my tricone (#1750) since I acquired it in the '80s. Both inspired by (and copied from) Oswald's work on the immortal Circle three-record set. Pretty certain Oz had his old Dobro set up in A tuning, not the far more common G.

Thank you 😁 !
Yes, it's said that he used A Higbass and a bullet bar,
just like the old Hawaiians !

Hi Sebastian, an excellent rendition of the tune. Who says you cannot get beautiful music playing in the A Major tuning. That's as nice as it gets. Keep up the good work.

Sebastian, I really like the way you alternate legato passages with very subtle staccato blocking in such a musical way. And besides this steel guitar nerd stuff, it's very enjoyable from a pure listening perspective. You must be doing all 100 of those Smith Hawaiian guitar exercises every day. Smile

Really enjoyed that, as usual. Simple melody played with skill!
I hope you don't mind me sharing your interview with the HSGA. I enjoyed listening to your perspectives and I think other players will as well. I hope others will support the HSGA as its work is important for keeping this beautiful music alive. Thanks for what you're doing, Sebastian!

I do, i usually use a regular light gauge bronze acoustic set and replace the first and second with a .016 and .018, this works for G and A and all points in between. Not sure what Sebastian uses but i love his sound.
One thing though, this is alot of tension so make sure your guitar is strong and stout, not recommended for a rickety old Weissenborn.

Hi Glenn,

for A Hibass
I use 16/18/22 (all plain) and 30/39/47 (wound).

I order the plains as single strings (rather cheap)
and use the the lowest basstrings from this set:
Daddario EFT 15

https://www.daddario.com/products/guitar/acoustic-guitar/flat-tops-phosphor-bronze/eft15-phosphor-bronze-flat-tops-extra-light-10-47/

It is a extra light guitar set and I swap the 3 high strings.

Thanks, I'll give those a whirl. A bit lighter than I'm running now but those should do well on my Republic tricone, its got a 25 1/2" scale instead of the 25" your vintage one has.
