Didn't like her politics, but loved her voice, writing and musical leanings for sure... This is my favorite song of hers, and one of my all time favorite songs period... May she rest in peace.... bob

I can disagree with someone's politics, yet not criticize them which I did not... I loved her voice, style, writing, and her taste in music.. I did not say anything off color, just that I didn't like her politics... She was a talented performer that I liked, and is gone way too soon. May she rest in peace..

Sad to read. I met her once at Emma Joes in Austin and she was pretty nasty to me and her husband Eric Taylor once tried to punch me out which I shared on Facebook:

https://www.facebook.com/bill.mccloskey.54/posts/221133046526771?notif_id=1628489666692406&notif_t=feedback_reaction_generic&ref=notif

But she was a brilliant performer, songwriter and artist. And it is sad she didn't reach greater fame. RIP, to a great artist.

We can disagree politically with anyone anywhere, yet still like or even love them,,, My apologies to anyone and everyone that might be offended.

Okay, somebody had to post this...She did write one that hit pretty big for Kathy Mattea, about a girl falling for a steel guitar player.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2GK462XnRjQ
Loved her voice and her writing, a fine picker, always had a great band, a true artist, seemed like a great person.

Thank you for posting the news. RIP, Nanci.

Yes, good to mention her "Love at the Five & Dime" with a steel player as main character. But why not go all the way and post Griffith's original recording with Lloyd Green's exquisite steel playing: Winking

Yeah, I was offended
One hell of a time to say something like that.
But, seeing it here on the forum I have to admit I'm not surprised.
Lots of hate among members for anyone not just like you.

Sad news, way too soon. A truly unique voice. Her habit of always including a book by Larry McMurtry somewhere in the early album cover pictures made me curious, and all of a sudden I had a new favorite writer. His books are as good as her songs.

My favorite songs of hers are probably "Goin' gone", "I wish it would rain" and "St. Olaf's Gate". RIP, Nanci!

I love that song.

Lloyd Green on steel, by the way.
He makes it look so easy.
What a great band in that video.

Her song, Listen To The Radio, brings back memories of the all night drives across seemingly endless highways, and remembering the line, "If you can't find a friend, you've still got the radio". When it felt like you were out there all alone without a friend, Nanci's lyrics told you she understood. Thanks Miss Nanci. You were a classic.

A great talent gone, Sad Crying or Very sad

Like many, I have strong political feelings and thinking.
I also love most forms of music and art.

Talented people come with every kind of political thought. The talent shines through!
My friends come with every kind of political thought. The friendship shines through!

My only thought here is that politics end at deaths door.
We have lost another person who made their life matter and brought something good and beautiful to others.

I love her singing. I can't believe she has died.
I remember going across the street when I worked in Cambridge Ma to the MIT store and found her video years ago.

Per Berner;… It may be a great time for you to discover James McMurtry..Larry’s son and singer songwriter, perhaps he found Nancy’s material as interesting as his fathers? His song…”We don’t make it here anymore “ speaks volumes of the times we’ve all been experiencing these days….I bet Nancy would approve of the message!

Just seeing this...Sad to hear of her passing. I always liked Love At The Five and Dime and Lone Star State of Mind.

I'm more than weirded-out though...For some reason I pulled up Love At The Five and Dime on YouTube last night and watched live and original versions, even Kathy Mattea's version out of the clear blue! Just learned of her death with this thread.

I was saddened to hear of her death. I didn’t discover her material until “Lone Star State Of Mind” in 1986/87. Among her many great recordings, “ Never Mind” and “ Once In A Very Blue Moon” were among my favorites. May Nanci Rest In Peace.
