Mike was a heck of a player, wasn't he? The scope of his work, broadway to Russian romantics/modernists, French impressionists... there's no way that any of us could say enough.
He truly was a in a field of his own. One might say he was the field.
He was a big supporter of the Forum as well, posted a lot, and had many interesting things to say as well. Not to mention his book on theory for pedal steel.
I also found him warm and human in corresponding and talking with him, not a small mind when it comes to others, more forgiving than his detractors, it seemed to me.
Yes, I miss Mike. A heckuva musician. Not really another like him. _________________ Those that say don't know; those that know don't say.--Buddy Emmons |

Agreed Charlie, many years ago he made the treck from California to Norwalk CT for the annual PSGA show and was on the bill.
He was a good guy and I really miss him here, glad I got to meet him! _________________ Regards, Craig

Way back before the Steel Guitar Forum existed, we steelers used to meet on AOL (America On Line). One night I was logged in (dial up, as I recall) and this window, with a message in it, popped up on my screen. What the heck is this? I didn't know about AOL Instant Messenger. It was Mike. He was on AOL and saw I was on line. I thought someone had taken control of my computer.
We chatted for a short while. Not too long. AOL would charge you if you went over your allotted monthly time. After that, he would send me a quick hello when he saw I was logged in to AOL.
We developed a nice relationship over the years.
I sure do miss him.

Just saw this, so sad... I knew Mike had been in a bad car accident years ago....
I have 4 or 5 "Perl Jams" to thank him for... they were a great chance for me to meet many wonderful SoCal steelers....
Thanks Mike! _________________ Dave Wren
