I'm interested in hearing more of Zane Beck's playing. I've heard very little. His significant contributions as a builder and innovator seem to somewhat overshadow the music he made. Any links or recommendations of specific recordings would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Andy.

The last Album was released after he passed away. Titled "Tribute to Zane Beck." His wife Faye put it out with the help of DeWitt "Scotty," Scott 1985. It's probably really hard to find a copy now. Both Faye Beck Milsap, and Scotty are now gone on too. Your best bet is to find someone who will make you a copy. In my opinion it's the very best of all of his albums. He was a Dear Friend of mine. I named my son Zane Wood after him. He also did an album with Julian Tharpe a mutual friend of ours. It was titled "12 + 14 =Country Jazz!" It is long out of print too. Both Zane Beck and Julian Tharpe were unique and special Steel Guitarists!

Well this is fantastic. I'm listening to the links you all shared right now. Much appreciated. The Bobby Caldwell collaboration is great- thanks for sharing this Dave, the link works just fine.
He really had a unique sound. What's the story with his tunings? Did he start using his personal 12 string approach in about the late 60s or perhaps earlier? He really blends a lot of styles together in true universal fashion. I've been studying his mid/late 70s copedants. Fascinating stuff. I'd interested to hear any of his earlier session work that I imagine predates his innovations as a builder.
