Topic: Telonics Volume Pedal with Hat Controller |

Has anyone used the hat controller that seems to be optional with Telonics VP. It puts the volume controller on the brim of a hat. You control volume by moving your head up and down.
Seems fascinating, but somehow difficult. I've tried reading while moving my head up and down. I can do it, but it sure isn't natural. |

Pretty specialized use I bet. I am an amputee, Jimmy Hudson made a steel for me accommodating my amputation. I do not have a foot for a volume pedal though.
I am a new on pedal steel and not using a volume pedal yet. But I'm always thinking about the future.
Ends up a lot of money. I probably will not be using a VP for a while. |

I imagine it uses the same angle sensor they put in the pedal. You can get used to anything if it's your only choice.

That's a pretty cool gadget. I imagine that your hat might need to be pretty snug.

Cool idea. If I ever have the means, I'm going to have a device with the electronics in a leg clip on box and the controller maybe on a vertical wrist bracelet of sorts.
I don't have any physical impairment, I just would like to eliminate the pedal from under the 9 pedal D10 for space and two footing comfort.
Dave says it's possible to eliminate the vp and install the electronics in such a clip on box.
I've been thinking about this for a few years, but my time and or finances will probably expire before I get to it. |

Unfortunately I recently lost my right foot after playing steel for over 35 years. Let me tell you, I have a lot of good friends this side of the pond who are trying to come up with a solution.
My pedal is currently with Dave Beaty at Telonics who is doing all the necessary upgrades and testing, and providing me with a sensor free of charge.
Not only that, he is also working on getting me the right system so that I might be able to play with feeling again rather than just setting the volume at a level and clunking along.
