I recently built a 23 inch scale Georgeboard Skyliner and thought I would post a couple pics.

I originally tried to do it in sherwood green lacquer, however I had lots of issues with that, specifically the clear eating into the green and making it look uneven and also after I got it looking somewhat OK the finish started cracking. So that was soul crushing, but I kept at it, stripped all the lacquer, and repainted with Rustoleum Gold Hammered Tone paint, readily available at Home Depot. This turned out quite nice, and was pretty easy. You can spray some on, wait a bit, see if it hammers, if not add a bit more. And the hammertone looks good with the vibe of this steel.

The kit goes together very easily, the only snag I hit is the pockets for the nut and bridge are very close tolerance so if your finish is thick they will no longer fit if left open during finishing. If I had thought of it I Would have just installed and masked them, then painted.

The acoustic tone is awesome with great sustain! I went with my S6 string through pickup for this build and the clarity of the string through pickup really lets it come through. The shorter scale seems to give a nice smooth midrange but its definitely not dark on the high strings or muddy on the low strings.

Hammertone. What a cool idea! I use that and crinkle paint frequently on vintage electronic gear but hadn't thought about using it on a lap steel. Nice build!
