Really nice photos, Xavier, keep 'em coming. Where did you get pickups?

Here's another option 4 U to consider. This a picture of my sq. neck "Dobro". It has wood veneer fret markers installed in the grooves rather than fret wire.

I was thinking about wood veener, but it would keep the color in case I decide to tint the wood in black.

Finally, I found 2 pieces of white plastic ABS binding? 1/4 wide, .5 mm thick.

Cut in two to get twice the length

Then glued in place with slow curing clear epoxy. (picture taken before applying the glue)

Soon to be leveled Smile

And I think I'll let the litchi wood natural/clear finish.

The first fretboard is leveled.

It looks... let's say, not so bad

Here's the look of the wet wood.

A nice caramel color that will darken with age

Here's how it will look later, as the explorer I built last year: mahogany with litchi wood top:

The second fretboard will receive black horn dots... not enough white MOP ones available Sad

Fretboards bound.

Time to chamber the body:

I screwed the back in place then routed till I exposed it through the body

Then routed the body with the template in place

The back will receive a white binding.

I recut the headstock angle to 7.5 degrees, adding a piece of wood under the headstock:

and bandsaws it:

Final shape was done with a handplane (top) spinning sander (back), after glueing the litchi wood veneers.

Here we are now

Waiting for the quilted maple top to come here in FP...

To prevent bleeding of epoxy into neighboring wood, try (experiment on scrap) a coat of sanding sealer before cutting slots for filler. While you are experimenting, you might try the sealer after cutting slots instead/also.
Good luck.

Back binding channel routed:

I began to glue the 2 mm ABS white binding... really stiff untill heated.
Superglue with some baking soda solution in the channel as homemade accelerator.

The tenon and mortises are cut.

Thanks!

Waiting for so many materials...

I have time enough to french polish the back.

I've tried everything, Shellac is unbeatable to enhance the woods. Not so hard but really easy fix finish.

Here are the very first coats of shellac:

Do the screw holes around the perimiter stay in, or will they get filled?

I'll try to find more attractive screws, but they'll stay apparent.

I ordered today the custom nuts and bridges from Rukavina guitars. They will be 14.5 mm heigh, with a strings clearance of 9.5 mm (3/8")over the 5 mm fretboards.

The cost for the bridges covers is really too high ($150) for just a cosmetic effect that will interfere with my (poor) palm muting technique...

I have a question about tunings:
One of the neck will receive a C6 /B11 tuning, I'd like to tune the other in open D/G. What about the 7 strings tuning in open G or D ?

Here are a couple options:
Open D: D F# A D F# A D
Open D7: D A D F# A C D or D A C D F# A D

I am actually using D A D F# A C D as my 7 string blues tuning. I’m sure you’ll get a lot of suggestions for fancier, more versatile tunings, but if you’re looking for a straight-ahead blues & rock tuning…

Thanks Allen, that's a good starting point for me.

I may tune one in C6 and the other one in C6 high G, too...

Heels shortened!

I don’t recommend super glue for initial binding install. You should have used a glue with acetone in it.....basically airplane glue. When you use duco cement, the binding softens and melts into the wood pores. Over time it moves better with the wood and tightens the bond. Super glue is ok for a binding repair, but most luthiers do not use it for the initial binding install. Your mileage may vary. Best to you in your fine build.
