I have adjusted the pickup poles up and down and find my bass notes to be low and loud is the best way i can explain.Would lighter string guages give me more tension and brighter sound.? Sorry i cant explain any better.I am in Dobro open G ,string guages i am using,56 46 36 26 18w 16. from 26 to 16 with the wound 2nd i really like the tone and sound,but i find the low notes too low?? Confused Confused

Thank goodness for this forum

Just checked Elys site and he says heaver makes more tension.

Unless you are using Low bass G DGDgbd rather than GBDgbd,those string gauges should be fine

If the pickup is adjustable for height on each end, set it closer to the strings on the treble side, and farther away from the strings on the bass side.

Your current string gauges are much heavier than required for Dobro tuning. Use lighter strings
G = 48
B = 38

These gauges are still well within Ely’s recommendations.

Lighter strings have less mass.
