Great pics, Mitch!

Classic Hollywood studio lighting in the Chuck Hatfield group shot. The Cairo pic is from the same fair as the Library of Congress pics.

Oh yes; most definitely!

Who's the gal with the archtop in the last picture? Could it be Marian Hall's guitarist sister? There's a slight resemblance.

And if future anthropologists need to know where the rest rooms were located, you've got 'em covered.

I seriously doubt it is Joanie.

Joanie not quite old enough, I'd guess.

I think Marian was born in 1935. Joanie at most 4 years older?

See sisters pic below; circa 1946?

I've got other pix of that gal with the archtop.

All on stage with the Jimmie Phillips band and sometimes in what appears to be a uniform, so I suspect she was in Jimmie's band.

All those 1940s dark haired chicks start to look like Ava Gardner or Gloria Grahame if I look at them long enough.

I was born about 15 or 20 years too late.

I can't accurately date the Murphy's photos, but it was known to be jumping by 1947 or so...haunted by Billy Hughes, Joaquin, and by Speedy and Jimmy Bryant after they hit town in what......48?

I think Speedy was working at Murphy's when he first encountered Bryant. Bryant was working down the street at the Fargo club, which might have been Billy Hughes' own place.

I can't yet date Curley's Bigsby, so it doesn't provide a clue.

I'm not sure that guitar has ever been located. I was in touch with a relative and she had no idea.

I keep telling myself that can't possibly be Speedy looking over Curley's shoulder.

Mitch, I'm inclined to agree the lady with the Gibson could not be Joanie Hall, given the respective dates of the pix. The guitarist resembles Joanie to my eyes, nonetheless. Great photo of the Hall girls, with young Marion demonstrating flawless single-string technique, picks and all. There's definitely a fleeting resemblance between the guy standing behind Curley Cochran and Mr. West. If it was indeed Speedy, I sure wouldn't have wanted to be in Cochran's shoes right about then.

From Samuel Palmer:

"Here is a photo you will not have seen before, an original film studio photo 1939.
Attached description on the back:

“Director Al Rogell, with hand on top of camera crane, prepares to shoot dance revue for “Hawaiian Nights” Universal musical romance featuring Johnny Downs, Constance Moore, Mary Carlisle and Eddie Quillan. Dance Director Jack Crosby, back to camera, waits orders to start Hula Girls into their routine. Sol Hoopii`s Hawaiian string band is shown at left”
