First off this is my first post (glad I joined this forum)....from Toronto, ON....bought a National lap steel (basic student model 1065) but have jumped into the lap steel rabbit hole with both feet....so decided to look for another maybe better lap steel....found this Magnatone online for a reasonable price but still learning how to ID lap steels....is this possibly a G65 or G70....described as "1950s Magnatone Lap Steel. The finish is original, called Sable. At the time the legs were an extra that could be ordered. Not many around with legs."

I wondered about the knobs though....they look like Tele knobs....knurled metal instead of black plastic....so assume not original?
G-70? good or bad? |

| Non-original knobs and tuner buttons. There is no mention I can find in any catalog about legs, so I'm suspicious about those too. The steel dates from the second half of the '50s and the color is described as blonde. Perfectly good model in general. |

Noah, is it possible that the legs were a dealer option, rather than a factory option?
Mike, 12th Fret on Danforth, and Capsule Music, on Dovercourt, nearly always have a few vintage lap steels on hand. 12th Fret also stocks new Duisenberg lap steels.

I guess it's possible - though I imagine it voided any warrantee once those screw holes for the sockets went in. |

| Those are good guitars. I have a 8 string like that from 1955 and its every bit as nice as a Fender. Mine has nickel button Klusons and plastic knobs, those one's look like Gretsch knobs. |

| I have the MOTS model G65. One I will likely never sell. Enjoy that one. Don't worry about the knobs and tuners. Play that beauty. |
