Here's one of my favorite modal Celtic tunes arranged in Open D (it also works well in DADGAD). You can find a zillion versions on YouTube. The main trick is keeping that 6/8 flow going and blocking when appropriate. There all kinds of ornaments you could addd to this bare bones version.

Andy, when I read your topic I thought pretty much the same as Jack. Just a couple of Merle fans, I guess.
Pretty nice tune though. I like playing in 6/8 time because it's easy to sneak in a bit of a shuffle feel here and there.
