At long last, my interview with the original Forumite b0b, AKA Bobby Lee, has arrived in podcast form!

https://bryandaste.com/2021/04/02/pedal-steel-podcast-episode-19-bobby-lee/

Big thanks to Erik Kristiansen for editing help on this one, as well as the next episode, yet to come. And, of course, thanks to b0b for the interview and everything he does for the steel guitar community!

It's good to be back! Smile

That is great news, your podcast is indirectly responsible for me taking up pedal steel almost 2 years ago. I was listening to your podcast while cutting grass and decided if I ever was going to learn it was the right time. I starting searching for an instrument right away. Thanks for promoting this instrument of ours!

Bryan,
Awesome! I love your podcast and was beginning to wonder when and if another episode was going to come out.
And I can't think of a more worthy, and more deserving individual to interview. Bob is definitely one whose many years of contributions and hard work and effort have done such an incredible amount to help further the instrument and the availability of resources for players both veterans and those looking to start.
Thank you, Bryan, for your time, effort, and hard work on your podcast and thank you, b0b, for your years of hard work with this forum.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. It's cool to hear B0b's voice and stories. It's crazy that I envisioned his voice differently. Lol

Now I'm going to find some Jerry Garcia stuff too.

Thanks for this episode.

Let's see the Slide Rule, B0b!!!

I may have backdated that copyright notice when I made it. I think it was probably '71 or '72.

I'm always impressed and amazed at the ideas people utilize to advance their playing. That was a nifty idea b0b. I typed(on a real typewriter) several charts back in the 80's but never thought of a slide rule approach. Can't help but respect that.

First time listen Bryan. Great job! And great job by your interviewee b0b (aka Bobby Lee). It was eye opening to see how this great forum came about. Now to continue listening to the other earlier podcasts that I missed.

At first glance, that "slide rule" is reminiscent of something that Joe Wright did on computer and used in some of his tutor videos. Is it the same idea?

I'll second Doug on the podcast being influential on my path to picking up steel. An invaluable resource to the steel guitar community. Thank you Bryan.

Probably. I haven't explored that. My slide rule was made before we had home computers or video players.

Joe Wright has developed methodical techniques that run through all possible permutations to improve your mental and physical skills. I have his Technique Bundle and it has helped my playing immensely. Instead of teaching licks and songs, it teaches your muscles to play the instrument almost automatically. Your mind makes the music and the sound comes out of your amp.
