Around 1985, Ralph Mooney quit the road and retired. He played locally with the "Country Drifters for a while and recorded a fine album. It was Moon from one end to the other (with a band and vocalist, of course). That album contains some of the best Ralph Mooney you could ever hear. His chops were up to par and his tone was stellar! I was so impressed with his playing when I first heard it, that I created and record a medley from the intros and solos Ralph took on the album. It was a feat to string all of it together, but here is a five minute deluge of pure Mooney-isms. If you're interested in learning it (or even some new Mooney licks), gjust click this link:

I have that album, The Country Drifters, w/Ralph Mooney on steel. The photo cover on the front has the group members and Ralph sitting behind his Sho~Bud. The song, Cinderella, Ralph does some fine West Coast Pickin' on it! |
