A young man searching for enlightenment requested acceptance to study at a monastary. The master explained that everyone in the order was required to take a vow of silence, to which the young man agreed.

"However," said the master, "you will be allowed to speak two words every seven years."

The young man studied very hard and after seven years was called to see the master, who asked him if he had anything to say.

"Bed - hard," was his reply.

Another seven years went by and again the master asked if he had anything to say.

"Food - bad," were the young man's two words.

After another seven years passed, the master again asked for his two words, to which the young man answered, "I quit."

The master gave him a disgusted look and said, "Well it doesn't surprise me. Since you first arrived, you've done nothing but complain!"
