I was just reminiscing tonite. 5 or 6 years ago Jim Vest put a band together playing at Bell Cove in Hendersonville TN. Mark Johnson vocals and Bass, James Mitchell Guitar, Bruce Watkins Fiddle. I must have made a half a dozen 5 Hr trips to hear this band and visit with Bruce...A child hood friend. I sure miss this. They Played this job for a year and a half or so. They would let some guest singers up. I sure hope that these times come back. Started out Fri and Sat then to Sat before it ended. Here is a sound cloud link to Mark singing Very Far To Go. Recorded on my I phone. In my opinion he owns this song. On this nite, Jim just got in the zone and played his butt off. I think Mark named the band RCM Band..Real Country Music, Boy was he right.

Hi Dale, That does not sound like Jim Vest...I believe its Mike Johnson on the first half of the solo and then its Tommy White on the second half.
Have a Great New Year!

Hi Paul, With the utmost respect, That was Jim, I recorded the song. I recorded it on my I phone. I requested the song every time I went to hear them. Jim was really on this night. Respectfully, Dale

Hey Dale,

No disrespect to you either and I am certainly not trying to argue with your memory. Jim is a very unique player so when I saw your thread I was excited wanting to hear some classic Vest licks. And to my ears those steel parts did not sound anything like the way Jim plays. I found a video of Mike and Tommy with Mark at the Show Pro bash doing the same song. Check it out..Your audio version and this video sound identical down to the fiddle fills. Were you at that show?

Just curious,
Paul

I'm siding with Paul on this. Definitely Tommy and Mike licks. Plus, you can obviously hear the different tones in the 2 guitars. And Jim is a great player, but it just doesn't sound like his style of playing.

So that and about $6 will buy you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

I apologize to all. Especially to Paul, for not blasting me. I have no idea how I got so mixed up. I was not at the show when Mike and Tommy backed Mark and I don't remember putting it on my phone. Sorry for the confusion that I might have caused. I do miss going to Bell Cove and listening to these guys play. I sure wish things would get back to normal. Every one stay well and have a safe 2021. Fred, I am sorry that I got so mixed up. I am so sorry that I made this mistake. On a positive note, I hope forum members that haven't heard this performance with Mike, Tommy and Mark, will get to hear this amazing performance. It's Real Country Music. Dale

Dale Hampton--I just recently went through a whole long back and forth with someone about whether we both knew the same guy from years ago -- a blind ProTools recording engineer and producer in NYC. We swore we both knew him and worked with him. Same nickname even. But my guy was definitely black. His guy was white. It seemed like a bizarre coincidence that just didn't pan out. Then I found a video with my guy. He is white. Totally. I can't even begin to figure where my head was at, where that 'memory' came from.
The memory can play funny funny tricks.

Dale,

Now that that's cleared up, how about posting some of the Jim Vest stuff. He's one of my favorite Nashville players.

Thank you guys for not burning me at the stake! I actually found that I have saved a few songs to my computer. I was setting at a table in front of Jim with my Phone laying on the table. I would like to find another host...maybe clyp. I will try and post soon as I can. Thank you. Dale

Don't worry about it Dale. There's not one among us who hasn't made mistakes. I can recall a few times here where I was so adamant about something only to find out I was wrong or had referenced in error.
