This is awfully sad news.
We played some shows alongside Charley through the years, and he was always a kind and gentle soul.
What a great and groundbreaking talent he was.
Rest in peace Charley.

Very saddened to know this. The first two songs I heard him sing on record back almost 55 years ago are "The Snakes Crawl At Night" and "Crystal Chandeliers". I was hooked. He was truly a great one and a legend as well. RIP Country Charley Pride !!

Really sorry and shocked to read this.
One of the few legends left.
Saw him in Brisbane some years ago and he put on a great show. He was a real character.
RIP Charley

He was one of those special people who didn't let barriers bother him. He treated other people fabulously and he was treated the same by others. I never heard a bad word about him.

Oh, no--I've been scheming, plotting and strategizing for almost two years about where, when and how to see him again, reconnoitering such far-flung venues (most recently canceled) as Washington, Arizona and Oklahoma.

At least I'll still have 1973 in OKC. And an autograph from the Nashville airport two years earlier.

If there's a Mt. Rushmore of country singers--of singers, period--Charley Pride is on it.
