I traded a guitar for this steel and was not informed of a possible ground problem. If my pick hits the pickup you can hear it through the whole guitar and amp. And if you turn up the amp to compensate for the loss from the ground problem it sounds terrible. If anyone could help me it would greatly be appreciated. |

Looks like some heavy modification including the pickup.
Derbys came from the factory with E66 pickups and had a strong, clear volume, so the pickup has been changed. If you want to keep that pickup, I would trace all the wiring from the pickup to the switch and first and check the solder joints and integrity of all that. If everything is OK there, I would suspect your pickup is bad.
Be sure to examine the output jack too. They do go bad. And check for proper wiring there also.
