While reading an article about tunings, this tuning was listed with no information about it. What tuning is this and what size of string gauges would be needed.

It’s a G major. The middle six strings are the same as a standard dobro tuning.

String gauges depend on scale length and how tight you like your strings. Here’s a link to John Ely’s string gauge chart.

GBDGBD is common as a bluegrass dobro tuning. There's a few people who use it for lap steel (electric). Jerry Douglas and Megan Lovell particularly (the latter moving into rock and blues lately). Basically it is common among people who started with bluegrass dobro.

That said, the intervals are such that it is very similar to Hawaiian A tuning (high bass), an old tuning that is equivalent but just a step higher. So I find myself playing old Hawaiian songs on my open G dobro sometimes.

I do just the opposite.
I tune to A, high bass, and play my dobro in the same tuning.Very Happy
